Jam period ends, Update


wat up, 

The game jam rating period ended, so I figured I'd go ahead and get an update out that fixes all the major bugs that stopped the game from playing.

What went wrong:

Sunday was the last day of the jam and a few hours before the jam ended I tried to sneak in an audio manager and some sounds to get a bit more into the game. I added a way for the audio to pool clips together, and when the same sound played multiple times to only play the sound 8 times, after that steal the oldest sound and replay that one. In doing so, I introduced a bug where after the 8th sound in the game played, the game would crash! ahh well you live and learn I guess. 

I wanted to get a bug fix out and cleaned up many other things that were introduced in the last few hours of the jam. In doing so I've picked up a bit of knowledge on FMOD a audio middleware that I'd been wanting to learn anyways, so I guess there's a silver lining. 

The new update is out that fixes the audio and the build lol.

other changes include :

  • a new upgrade to 'hairrow' that adds a knockback effect.
  •  hairrow's burst is no longer 3 fully random projectiles, its 1 random projectile, followed by 2 shots fired in a 15 degree plus or minus. I think that fits better with a 'burst' firing type of ability.
  • when getting an ability option, the options are unique now, and you should no longer see the same ability multiple times. I plan to change the way the upgrades select duplicates as well, but that's another time :)
  • there's been some tweaks to experience gains, I don't think its quite where I'd want it to be, but trial and error I suppose.
  • I added a custom cursor. one of the biggest things this jam I tried to do was implement all my own art, so I'm continuing making more art as well.

I'd like to add more abilities and upgrades to the game. I'm also brainstorming of other ways to interact within the game.
